It’s allergy season once again. The temperatures are rising, the sun is shining, and pollen is in the air. For some that statement is like a horror story, but there are steps you can take to make springtime more enjoyable with allergies.

Limit Exposure to Triggers

Stay inside on dry, windy days, and go outside after it rains. Rain can help clear the air. Make sure to shower and wash your clothes after doing outside chores to get rid of allergens. Avoid chores that may trigger allergens such as pulling weeds or lawn mowing.

Keep Track of Pollen Count

A high pollen count may trigger allergies. Check a weather app, local news forecast or the internet for what the pollen count may be. That way you can take medicine or know to stay inside.

Try Over-the-Counter Relief

If keeping things clean and avoiding triggers isn’t enough, try over-the-counter relief. Antihistamines, nasal sprays, and decongestants are all tools to help you manage allergy symptoms.

Keep Things Clean

Going from outside to inside may track allergens indoors. Manage your indoor exposure by using the air conditioning in your car and home, and make sure that the air conditioning has quality filters. Clean your floors with a vacuum with a good HEPA filter, and use a dehumidifier to keep air dry.

Talk to Your Doctor

If these things aren’t working for you or something doesn’t feel right, speak to your doctor. Your doctor can give you referrals to specialists if needed, and can help you manage your allergies. Stop in to our Community Clinic and we’ll be happy to help!
