You hear a lot of discussion about N-95 masks or respirators, but what are they really? N-95 respirators filter 95% of all particulates from the air you breathe in while wearing the mask. It does not provide 100% filtration but does significantly reduce the amount of particles, including virus particles, that you inhale.
During this pandemic, it is critical that the people providing direct care to COVID-19 patients have N-95 respirators available to them. Hospitals, clinics, first responders, and other medical professionals are working to prioritize the supply and use of these masks.
While you will have a difficult time trying to purchase N-95 masks, you can achieve the same level of protection. How?
Wash you hands thoroughly and as often as possible, especially after interactions with other people or after shopping, getting the mail, or being out in public.
Practice Social Distancing, yes, even at home.
Mask every time you are out of your home.
Taking these three simple steps will have a significant impact on slowing the spread of COVID-19 in our community. If you won’t do it for yourself, do it for your friends and family.
